Do you need a day to prepare for Christmas or just need some time out? Send the kids to join us at YCC for a fun-packed Saturday program.

Suitable for primary school aged children.

9.00am – 11.00am: Insect Hotels, Pollination and the Web of Life with Carmel

In this session children will learn about the importance of pollination and insect biodiversity through an interactive web of life game as well as making their very own take home insect hotel.

About the Tutor

Carmel Gerdsen is a passionate professional beekeeper who owns her own business called CMG Honeybee. Carmel is an educator offering mentoring and workshops, makes her own local raw honey, beeswax wraps and bee bio-security services.

11.00am – 2.00pm: Cooking with Susan: beef pasties with veggies and apple and cinnamon pinwheels

Gather in the kitchen with Susan to make and bake your own lunch and dessert. You might even make some to share with your family when you get home. Yum! (recipes can be adjusted to suit dietary requirements)

About the tutor

Susan Stojanova has been cooking since she was 12 years old. She continues to create and experiment with old time European recipes and loves sharing her recipes, tips and variations. All of Susan’s classes use her own recipes and she gets great pleasure from seeing the enjoyment on her students faces when they taste their creations. Family, friends and students say that her baklava is the best!

2.00pm – 4.30pm: Recycled Steampunk Creatures

There are no limits to this class! Create your own individual creature and Steampunk hat using a variety of recycled materials such as cogs, wood, plastic, metal, foam and wire. It will ignite imagination, creativity, exploration and most importantly you will have fun in a nurturing environment.  Wear casual clothes, it might get messy!

About the Tutor

Anna Kolusniewski is a practising artist, teacher, jewellery and costume designer. Anna teaches a variety of art and craft classes across Melbourne, suitable for all age groups and always lots of hands-on creative fun. Anna believes everyone has the ability to be creative and with positive encouragement can produce beautiful artwork. She also believes creativity has a calming effect on children and builds confidence through a sense of achievement, she loves inspiring children to push the boundaries of what they think they are capable of to send them to next level.

IMPORTANT: 

  • Please ensure children are dropped off at YCC, 59 Francis Street, Yarraville between 8.45am and 9.00am.
  • Children will need to be picked up at 4.30 pm.
  • Please let reception staff know if your child has any allergies.
  • All materials and lunch provided. BYO snacks, drink, and apron. Casual clothes the kids can get messy in.

$135 one child

$230  two children from the same family (please contact the office to book more than one child)

$115 concession (please contact the office to receive this concession price)

Concession – We offer a fee subsidy should your child hold or has a parent or guardian who holds, one of the following:

  • a Commonwealth Health Care Card
  • a Commonwealth Pensioner Concession Card
  • a Department of Veterans Affairs Gold Card or White Card
  • Refugee or Asylum Seeker visa (200-204, 786 or 866)
  • Bridging visas for any of the above Refugee or Asylum Seeker visas
