Sarma (cabbage rolls) and lepinja

Course summary

Sarma (Serbian) or Golabki (Polish), are traditional stuffed cabbage (sauerkraut) rolls filled with a mixture of minced meat, bacon, rice and veggies, topped with a sweet and tangy tomato sauce. Ways of making sarma differ according to the region of origin – we’ll use mince beef and accompany with lepinja (Balkan flat bread).

First you will prepare the cabbage, next you will make the filling and cook the tomato sauce before learning how to expertly fold and cook the filled cabbage leaves.

What you will learn

  • how to stuff cabbage rolls with mince beef, adding complementary ingredients
  • how to correctly fold the rolls
  • how to cook the rolls in a tomato sauce on the stove top

  • samples and take home – 6 cabbage rolls and 2 lepinja (flatbread)

About the tutor

Susan Stojanova has been cooking since she was 12 years old. She continues to create and experiment with old time European recipes and loves sharing her recipes, tips and variations. All of Susan’s classes use her own recipes and she gets great pleasure from seeing the enjoyment on her students faces when they taste their creations. Family, friends and students say that her baklava is the best!
