Our students have opportunities to study pathway courses that lead them to employment.

Yarraville Community Centre’s students have opportunities to study pathway courses to lead them to employment. Lhamo is one our students who was a refugee to Australia and is now progressing with her studies with the goal of one day becoming an aged care worker.

Where are you from?
My name is Tsering Lhamo and I am from Tibet. I came to Australia on the 19th
December 2019 with my husband.

Tell us about your future career plans?
I plan to work in Aged Care in Australia however, I am a teacher of my own language in an Institute back home, where I have taught adult foreigners, but now I have an opportunity to be a student again.

I am currently studying English (AMEP program) and a Learn Local program Study Skills for Work: Aged Care. Then later this year I plan to commence the CHC33015 Certificate III in Individual Support (Ageing) qualification at The Yarraville Community Centre which will give me a nationally accredited qualification for work within the aged care industry.

How do you enjoy living in Australia?
I have been In Australia for one and a half year old Australian Tibetan, and I really feel so lucky to be here in this beautiful country and I am very grateful for the support The Yarraville Community Centre provides me. I especially love the people, multi-culture, foods, great opportunities, human rights and safety. Yes, some people complain about the weather, but I am enjoying this weather, it’s very exciting, we can cherish all seasons in one day sometimes. I love it.

Tell us about your studies at The Yarraville Community Centre?
I am really enjoying learning at The Yarraville Community Centre, because of all the excellent and great teachers and wonderful staff. It always feels so welcoming when I enter the door of my school, and I enjoy learning because the teachers really encourage us to develop and grow. I feel learning English is very important for making our life stable and independent in this country.
