Get Online Week - A Practical Guide to Online Services, Apps and Staying Safe

Course summary

Join us at Yarraville Community Centre for an engaging and practical digital skills workshop designed to help older adults confidently navigate today’s increasingly digital world.

This hands-on session will introduce participants to useful online services and essential online safety skills that can support independence, connection, and confidence in everyday life. Whether you’re new to technology or looking to build on your existing skills, this workshop provides a supportive environment where questions are encouraged and personalised assistance is available.

As part of the workshop, participants will be introduced to the Be Connected learning website, a free online resource offering courses, learning topics, and practical information to support ongoing digital learning. Facilitators will demonstrate how to navigate the website and access resources relevant to everyday digital life.

Support includes:

  • Introduction to the Be Connected learning website and its free learning resources
  • Exploring useful apps and online services for everyday life
  • Understanding and accessing services such as myGov and Medicare
  • Learning the basics of online safety and digital security
  • Guided demonstrations and practical activities using smartphones and tablets
  • Opportunities for personalised support and questions throughout the session

Participants learn how to:

  • Find and access reliable online information and services
  • Use everyday APPS with greater confidence
  • Recognise common online safety risks and learn strategies to stay safe online
  • Continue developing their digital skills through free online learning resources
  • Build confidence, bridge the digital divide in a supportive friendly environment

Get Online Week 2026 is taking place between 19-25 October, with hundreds of local events happening nationwide. It is Australia’s largest community-led digital inclusion campaign. Organised by Good Things Australia, Get Online Week reaches more than 15,000 Australians annually, helping them improve their digital skills. This workshop is supported by Good Things Australia.
