Considering a career change? Learning English?

Pathway studies at Yarraville Community Centre has enabled many local students to reach their goals!

Yarraville Community Centre’s students have opportunities to study pathway courses to lead them to employment. Pathway programs are designed to help students prepare for further education. If you are considering changing courses or careers, or don’t quite meet the entrance requirements for university, or you are from a non-English speaking background, you might want to consider a local pathway program.

Many students choose to complete a pathway program before starting tertiary-level courses. One such student, is Shyamalie Arachchige, from Yarraville Community Centre (YCC), who has been on a pathway to success since arriving in Australia in 2007. Shyamalie, originally a primary school teacher from Sri Lanka, chose to study at YCC in Footscray to learn English and prepare for her future studies in Australia with the aim of gaining secure career path that she enjoys.

“My experience as a student at Yarraville Community Centre has been very positive. I have been offered a lot of support especially in English throughout my studies, and thanks to this education, I was able to further my studies and reach for my goals,” she says.

After completing her English studies at YCC she went on to gain a Certificate III in Early Childhood Education and Care. Shyamalie’s only barrier to achieving the next step was to further develop her English skills. She returned to YCC for another six months and further improved her English skills so she could start her Diploma. After completing her Diploma in Early Childhood Education and Children’s Services she is now a valued full-time staff member at YCC working within their childcare service at 59 Francis Street, Yarraville.

“I have been working as an early learning educator at YCC since 2014 and I have never looked back. I love coming to work every day, working with such wonderful colleagues and local children who give me such joy. YCC has been such an integral part of my success and I am so proud to have found a career path that I thoroughly enjoy!”

YCC is very proud of Shyamalie’s success and thanks her for her continued hard work and long-term service. Shyamalie is living proof that any result is achievable when you focus your intention with clarity and purpose toward the outcome you strive for.
