Kitchen Scraps Colour: Silk Ribbons (29 August)

Course summary

Discover the joy of transforming everyday kitchen scraps into beautiful, natural colours.
In this hands‑on workshop, you’ll learn how to extract dye pigments from familiar ingredients like avocado skins, onion peels, tea, and coffee. Together, we’ll simmer, strain, and experiment with these earthy hues, using the colours we create to dye a variety of fabrics and fibres. Whether you’re new to natural dyeing or already love slow craft, this session invites you to play, explore, and leave with your own uniquely coloured textiles.

What you will learn

  • how to create natural dyes from kitchen waste and common pantry items
  • fundamental dyeing techniques including use of modifiers to expand colour rages from a single dye
  • how different fibres – silk, wool, linen, cotton or synthetics – respond to the same dye in different ways

What you will get

  • silk ribbons you have created to frame or use in crafting projects

What you need to bring

  • an apron and gloves (unless you don’t mind getting a bit dirty)
