Holiday Kitchen: Roll, Wrap & Decorate!

Course summary

Get ready for a full day of cooking adventure!

Children will start the morning rolling their own sushi and wrapping fresh rice‑paper rolls, then switch to sweet creativity in the afternoon as they decorate their very own cake masterpiece. It’s savoury fun, sweet delights, and hands‑on kitchen magic all in one day.

What parents love most about YCC’s school holiday programs is that they’re always unique and a little bit different. And not to mention, so much FUN!

Suitable for children aged between 7 and 12 years old.

 

9.30am – 12.30pm: Making Sushi & Rice Paper Rolls

In the morning, your children will whip up fresh sushi and rice‑paper rolls—perfect for a tasty lunch with a fun twist. With Kate guiding them step by step, they’ll learn how to prepare ingredients, roll their creations and enjoy the delicious meal they’ve made themselves. It’s a joyful, hands‑on way to spend the school break, make new friends and discover the excitement of cooking.

12.30pm – 3.30pm: Cake Decorating

After lunch, get ready to bring your cake to life with fresh. stabilised cream, fresh fruits and a lot of sprinkles and fondant decorations. Your children will learn how to layer a cake, with fillings such as homemade jam, chocolate buttercream, fresh fruit, how to cover each cake in fresh, stabilized cream and decorate their own cake with their own creative spin  At the end of the class, a beautiful cake with their newly learned cake decorating techniques will be ready to take home and share with family and friends.

About the tutor

Kate Ngo is a passionate culinary educator and the founder of Labour of Love, a cooking school that welcomes all ages and abilities. With seven years of experience running a successful baking business specialising in macarons, custom cookies, cakes and desserts, she’s known for creating food that’s as beautiful as it is delicious. Kate brings her expertise in Asian cuisine and desserts into every class, sharing flavours, techniques and stories that inspire confidence in the kitchen. Her teaching style is fun, inclusive and hands‑on, encouraging students to explore, create and connect through food. Whether someone is a beginner or a seasoned home cook, Kate’s classes leave them with new skills, warm memories and a deeper appreciation for the joy of cooking.

  • Please ensure children are dropped off at YCC, 59 Francis Street, Yarraville at 9.15am
  • Children will need to be picked up by 3.30pm sharp
  • Please let us know if your child has any allergies

What to bring 

  • A water bottle and light snacks for break times
  • Casual clothes that can get a little messy
  • An apron(if they have one) to protect their clothes
  • A container for leftovers from lunch
  • A container for a cake
