The Maribyrnong River Trail

The Maribyrnong River Trail, is a shared use path for cyclists and pedestrians jumping from one side of the Maribyrnong River to the other.

The trail follows a meandering route through the river valley carved into the Keilor East landscape at Brimbank Park, then across a floodplain to its finish on the banks of the Yarra River at Docklands.

Starting at Brimbank Park, the gravel trail provides magnificent views along the river and of the city skyline before a quick descent to wind its way through the trees along the valley before traversing native bushland and attractive river reserves, under towering bridges of the Melbourne-Sydney rail line and Western Ring Road and past Flemington Racecourse.

Don’t be in a hurry to cover the 21km length of this picturesque trail. Instead take the time to discover the habitats cradled in the many bends of the river where surrounded by cliffs, stately river red gums, open grasslands and restored wetlands are ideal settings for a rest and some well-earned daydreaming.
